Arenal Volcano
Located in the northern part of the Alajuela province, close to the Nicaraguan border, the Arenal Volcano region possesses beautiful and varied scenery.
Sitting within a National Park, Arenal Volcano is a stunning sight. It boasts a perfect conical shape, and although it has entered a resting phase, it is still a wonder to behold.
The park’s primary rainforest is exuberant and includes four different micro-climates, making it the home of an enormous amount of flora and fauna.
These include snakes (such as the boa constrictor and the fer-de-lance), howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys, sloths, coatis, deer, and much more.
Birds are also abundant here; almost 75% of Costa Rica’s total 920 species reside in these forests. There are trails within the park that make for some great hiking, especially when it comes to witnessing some of the volcano’s activity in the past.
The number of activities you can participate in this region is extensive. There is something for everyone, from the most adventurous to visitors who just want to relax away from it all. You will find canopy tours and white water rafting, nature walks and bike rides, hot springs and spas.
