José: Hello everybody!

I’m actually in Costa Rica right now and I am in a place called Sarapiquí.

This is one of my preferred places, when I was a tour guide, I was coming here for rafting.

I am right next to Johana, who is the co-owner of Aventuras del Sarapiquí, which is the adventure company in Sarapiquí, and now we are going to talk a little bit with Johana about what they do, and she is also going to explain to us also a little bit about rafting.

What is rafting?

Johana: Hello, how are you?
José: Thank you for having us

Johana: You are welcome, thank you for visiting.

I will tell you a little bit about rafting.

First of all, it’s very important to know about the classifications for rafting. There are different levels of rafting, which you can choose depending on your expectation of the level of your adventure.

Rafting in Sarapiquí River

You can choose between class 1 which means the lowest part of the river, no rapids, no white water, it’s basically just current, really calm water.
José: More like floating

Johana: Yes, actually floating, more like a safari trip, no contamination, really calm, amazing to see wildlife, bird, the forest.

The wildlife around the river is really nice. It’s good for kids, really small kids. Also, for people who are a bit scared at the beginning.

The difficulty goes from class 1 to class 6.  That means class 2 & 3 is a little bit more difficult. More rapids, white water, more current, different obstacles in the river, the guide knows really well how to be safe on that part.

It’s a recommendation also for people that don’t have experience in rafting before, to do a class 2 & 3, it’s a good start to have really nice, good first experience.

José: And it’s really fun
Johana: Yes, it’s really fun
José: And you are going to get wet for sure
Joana: Yes in all of them

Johana: And if you are looking for something a bit more exciting, that means a class 4, but no more than 4. When the classes go higher and higher it’s a bigger chance to have a not-so-nice experience, like falling out of the raft or the boat might flip. So, it’s good to keep between class 2/3 which is the section that we run normally here in the Sarapiquí River.

We have a total of 15 kilometers, which will take you about 2, 2.5 hours. So it’s really nice for a half-day trip and you can combine it with another activity, another adventure that we also offer here in Sarapiquí.

Red Poison dart Frog

José: Because you also offer zip lining and tubbing?
Johana: Yes and we also offer horseback riding, mountain bike trips and we have the safari the class 1 floating.
José: See, like I mentioned, this is the company you want to visit

Johana: So, we would like to invite all of you to come here to Sarapiquí, it’s a really nice area, really calm, no crowds. You will have a good experience and good vacation time here. And the weather is nice

José: Nice and warm
Johana: Yes, nice and warm. It’s a rainforest, so it’s easy to catch some rain during your days here, but that is normal. That is why everything here is so green, we need to keep the rain coming.

Keel-billed Toucan

José: Yes, because we need the river high
Johana: The forest and the river needs the rain and the frogs
José: Actually Sarapiquí is known for a very large variety of small frogs. Like tree frogs and bottom tree frogs, poison dark frogs. We find like 3 or 4 species here of the poison dark frogs. Plus there are many other different species, who of course need the rain and the water because that is what they enjoy the most.

Johana: Yes, we all need the rain, as long as we have enough rain, everything will be ok
José: Perfect

Johana: Thank you!
José: Bye Bye!
